Singapore Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Singapore. One of the best airlines in the world is Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines was started in 1947 as Malayan Airways Limited or MAL. MAL's first service was from then-British Singapore to the current Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. MAL was the first to use the Airspeed Consul, a small two-engine aircraft. Thus, the airline launched three services a week to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. In 1948, Douglas DC-3 aircraft arrived at MAL's fleet. That same year, it launched services to Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Saigon and Bangkok. By 1955, Malayan Airways began to grow with more Douglas DC-3 model aircraft. During the 1950s and '60s, aircraft such as the Douglas DC-4, Vickers Viscount, DH 106 Comet 4, and Lockheed L-1049 arrived at MAL.
